Internal Auditor Opportunity

NextStep Recruiting has partnered with a publicly traded financial services organization to identify an Internal Auditor in North Dallas. This is a contract opportunity supporting the company's 2026 year-end SOX audit and testing requirements. The position offers a hybrid schedule of four days onsite one day remote. Will focus heavily on evaluating internal controls, documenting testing results, and supporting the Internal Audit team through its annual compliance cycle.

This position is ideal for an experienced Internal Auditor who can hit the ground running with SOX 404 testing in a publicly traded environment. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, proficient in Excel, and comfortable independently executing control testing while meeting critical audit deadlines. This individual will be responsible for testing approximately 85 controls, primarily across Accounts Payable, Inventory, Finance, and Operations.

Required:

• 2+ years of internal or external audit experience with hands-on SOX 404 compliance testing and evaluation of key internal controls
• Experience performing operating effectiveness testing, documenting audit workpapers, evaluating supporting evidence, and identifying control deficiencies
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to organize, execute, and document SOX testing and audit results within Excel-based workpapers
• Understanding of financial and operational business processes, particularly Accounts Payable, Inventory, Finance, and related internal controls
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to independently manage testing assignments, address review questions, and meet strict deadlines

Preferred:

• Prior public accounting experience with a Big 4 or regional accounting firm
• SOX testing experience within a publicly traded company
• Experience testing a high volume of controls across multiple financial and operational process areas
• Experience collaborating with external auditors, internal control owners, and audit leadership to resolve testing questions and communicate findings
• Experience using AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT to improve audit efficiency while independently validating outputs
